What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is biofeedback which uses a computer program to interpret and assess the brain's own patterns and signals. Using visual and audio signals, the program teaches your brain to recognize and improve it's own patterns and function. Watch our video to learn more.

This is an in-person procedure. We will resume when our office reopens.

Retrain your brain

If you are looking for improved emotional control (such as getting past trauma or working through addictions) or increased physiological stability (such as improved ability to focus or reduced headaches), Neurofeedback may be what you’ve been hoping for. Neurofeedback is biofeedback specifically for the brain.  In a totally non-invasive manner, your own brain waves are translated through a computer program that gives the brain a way to observe itself and thus regulate itself to more optimal functioning. Neurofeedback addresses brain dysregulation such as addiction, anxiety & depression, attention deficits (ADD/ADHD), behavior disorders, sleep dysregulations, headaches & migraines, PMS & emotional disturbances.

How is Neurofeedback done?

Neurofeedback starts with an assessment to determine if and how you can benefit from neurofeedback.  This process requires assessing current and historical issues that may impact your brain functioning. Based on findings, a plan is discussed for treatment. Sensors are placed on your scalp with an EEG paste in order to pick up brain waves. The placement of sensors are specific to each individual. This is an entirely non-invasive painless process. There is no voltage applied to the brain.

The brain waves are then processed by a computer and information gained is mirrored back to the brain through a game or video. The brain recognizes its own patterns in this process. This recognition of patterns allows your brain to train using its own waves to operate the computer programs regardless of physical or cognitive abilities.

What People Are Saying

Neurofeedback has changed our whole lives!  We've tried medicine for ADHD, and it didn't work. The side effects were dramatic, but neurofeedback is working, and there are no negative side effects!  He's a happier kid, he follows directions, and I only have to say things one time.  He's more mild-tempered, his good qualities are able to shine, and he's completely off meds.  He's even now off his asthma meds, and he has no symptoms of asthma, and he has been able to be more active.  I would recommend it to anyone, and I do recommend it all the time!

After only 4 sessions of neurofeedback, I noticed a feeling of calm, a euphoric relaxation.  After years of steady angst and anxiety, it was quite a relief.  After 10 sessions, I've had an increase in energy, feeling much more calm, an increase in desire to experience life, able to focus and concentrate at work, and feeling less depressed.  When I do feel depressed, I'm able to deal with it better.

After having neurofeedback, things that used to bother me don't bother me as much.  If somebody didn't respond to a message right away, I would get really anxious, and now it's not a big deal.  I can control my emotions much better.  Before neurofeedback, it would be hard to breath, and I could feel fluttering in my chest, and now that doesn't happen anymore.  I used to get so stressed that I would gag and throw up every day before work, and now that never happens.  It used to take me 60-90 minutes to get to sleep, and now it takes about a half hour.  I couldn't turn my mind off.  I used to wake up in the middle of the night and stay awake stressing, and now I sleep through the night!

The most powerful thing for me in neurofeedback has been understanding WHY at times I have overwhelming thoughts of wanting to die. The Alpha theta experience, "5 Ages of Me", gave me insight and understanding. I now realize I was exhausted. It allows me to recognize my needs when I am going through those times. They are not so scary. The thoughts are no longer so overwhelming and intrusive. Even if I am having the thoughts I can take them more as a signal to action - to take care of myself. The thoughts no longer make me feel like there is something wrong with me or that I am unfixable.

When I started neurofeedback, I had two or three terrible headaches every week.  I got angry easily and had a lot of mood swings.  After the first neurofeedback session, I left and felt happier than I had in a really long time, and this lasted for a few days.  After the second session, my headaches went away and I have only had one headache in the past two months.  The most surprising thing is that I keep going to the sessions, though I have quit all other therapy that I have ever attempted.  ~Sharon S

My depression has lessened in strength, and the times I think about it have reduced.  It is more of a distant background noise instead of a prominent movie volume.  It has gone from a day-to-day 4/10 to 1-2/10 if I notice it.  It's easier to work through my anxiety, as it doesn't have as sharp of an edge.  With the depression lowered, I can be more aware of what I need to do to work through my anxiety. Before neurofeedback, it used to take me 45-60 minutes to fall asleep, and now I can fall asleep within 10-15 minutes.  Nightmares have greatly decreased, and I no longer wake up crying because of them.
