Writing the Rollercoaster

Managing Stress and Uncertainty

Experiencing the COVID blues? Feeling anxious, worried, stressed? Up one minute – down the next?

Ambiguity is a bit like riding a roller coaster. Some will love it and others won't want to go near it. Some rides are choppy and nerve-wrecking and other rides are a thrill. Unfortunately, like it or not, we're all on the wild, turbulent ride not knowing when the next twist or turn will come. This online therapeutic writing group is a creative way to explore and reflect on our current life situation. It is a way to feel stronger and better able to manage the challenges that have been thrown in our path.

Topics Include: Holding on; Conquering your fear; Enjoying the ride with your eyes wide open and your hands in the air!; Keeping your butt in the seat; Rapidly changing perspectives; After the ride with your feet firmly on the ground.

For Adults:   12 noon to 1 pm -- Thursdays, May 14 to June 18 (6 wks) online

$35/session or $180 for series if paid at 1st session - May be covered by insurance or use HSA or FSA

Frequently Asked Questions

image307

Is this a writing group?

Not in the sense of an English class. It uses writing as a tool for personal healing. This group will also discuss ideas from the writing of others who have had similar experiences.

For instance, Jessica Hovey wrote as part of a poem;

"But amidst the wreckage of our shattered dreams

We spread our broken wings and strive to soar."

Using this writing as a starting point for our own thoughts and feelings, we may discuss shattered dreams and what we can do to rebuild our strengths, hopes and dreams. In this group we will use writing as a therapy tool. No grades! No spelling or grammar checks. Just the thoughts, feelings and ideas that give insight and a voice for our experience.

Do I have to share what I write?

People will have the opportunity to share their insights but will not be required to do so. Although, this is the benefit of a group. Sometimes instead of sharing what you wrote you may share the experience of what you wrote. Such as, I wrote about shattered dreams and was surprised at how much it hurt to think about the loss of a dream.

How do I know if this Is a fit for me (or my child)?

If you a looking for a way to make sense out of what feels beyond comprehension and/or need a way to express what you experiencing, this group will help.

"Poetic language honors our polarities. We use the language of poetry to provide the many levels of feeling, facets of knowing, simultaneously, so we can examine them and move forward." – Peggy Osna Heller, CPT

Betrayal

Writing to Heal: Recovering from Betrayal Trauma

Betrayal by the people we trust and count on, the ones who most intimately know who we are, is a tsunami of devastation. It wipes out trust and beliefs.  It takes away the ground from underneath our feet. Learning to trust   ourselves again requires a careful unfolding of the betrayal and a rebuilding   of what we know to be true. This therapeutic writing group is for those who   have been intimately betrayed and wish to regain a sense of strength and  purpose. It is for those looking to grow beauty out of despair.

We will cover:  The devastation of betrayal . . . . . . Wreckage after the storm . . . . . .  Exposed vulnerability  Feeling crazy (no you are not) . . . . Tools to rebuild . . . . . . Wisdom and purpose for moving on  and will end with a . . . .  Celebration of Creative Healing
